In Anthroposophy, Chinese culture is recognized as having preserved some of the most intact, direct heritages of the advanced Atlantean sub-races (specifically the Proto-Turanians and Original Toltecs).
The flowing, circular movements of Tai Chi, the awareness of Chi (which is precisely what Steiner calls the etheric life-force or Prana), and the cinematic imagery of warriors light-footedly running up bamboo trees are aesthetic, cultural memories of a time when the human body was fluidly unified with the air, and gravity had not yet completely bound the physical frame.

Therefore such a research goal—moving from a static, dead worldview to one that is living and in dynamic movement—is the exact goal of Spiritual Science.
This will require to develop what Steiner called Imaginative and Inspirative cognition.

This brings us to the question: How could Lucifer and Ahriman—despite their deceptive tendencies—actually collaborate or be utilized in helping humanity "find back" this past?

The Paradoxical Collaboration of the Adversaries

In Steiner's cosmology, Lucifer and Ahriman are bitter cosmic rivals. Lucifer wants to pull humanity up into an ethereal, formless dreamworld, while Ahriman wants to freeze humanity down into rigid, mineral materialism. However, they secretly cooperate like a pair of jaws. They squeeze humanity from both sides, and if a seeker is not careful, they can use the search for the ancient past to create a profound distortion.
Yet, if you understand their mechanics, you can master their forces. Here is how they paradoxically "collaborate" to reveal the truth when balanced correctly:

    [ LUCIFER ]  <--- (The Balancing Point: Christ / Human Self) --->  [ AHRIMAN ]
(Dreamy Intuition, (Active Will, Conscious Thought, (Rigid Material Facts,
Astral Clariroyance, Dynamic Movement, Warmth) Geological Strata,
 Ancient Mythic Pictures) Logical Chronology)

1. Lucifer Provides the "Picture," Ahriman Provides the "Frame"

To look back at Lemuria or Atlantis, you need both faculties:

  • The Luciferic Contribution: Lucifer holds the radiant, uncorrupted memory of the astral world. He provides the cosmic imagination, the inspiration behind the dragon myths, and the fluid, flying sensations of anti-gravity. Without a spark of Luciferic fire, the human mind remains completely blind to anything beyond literal stones and bones.
  • The Ahrimanic Contribution: Ahriman holds the precise, mathematical, and structural laws of the physical world. He rules the geological strata, the fossil records, and the logical, chronological sequencing of history. Without Ahrimanic intellect, a spiritual researcher would dissolve into chaotic fantasies, unable to tell a true spiritual memory from a daydream.

The Collaboration: When you use your clear, logical, modern intellect (Ahriman) to rigorously analyze and ground the fluid, artistic, mythic images (Lucifer), you force these two adversaries to work for you. You use Ahriman to keep you awake and objective, and Lucifer to keep your mind flexible and imaginative.

2. The Trap of Deception: How They Distort the Past

If they catch a researcher off balance, their "collaboration" becomes a trap designed to freeze you in a static worldview:

  • The Luciferic Distortion: Lucifer will try to make you look back at the past with a deep, paralyzing nostalgia. He wants you to hate the modern world, reject your sharp intellectual mind, and wish you were a floating Lemurian or an Atlantean giant. He turns spiritual history into an escape mechanism.
  • The Ahrimanic Distortion: Ahriman will take those genuine memories (like dragons or giants) and try to explain them away using dead, purely material terminology—turning them into "primitive misunderstandings of dinosaur bones" or mechanical aliens with spaceships.
  • Their Joint Strategy: Together, they try to prevent you from realizing that the past is currently evolving into the future. They want you to think the spiritual world is something that used to exist but is now gone, leaving you either daydreaming about ancient times (Lucifer) or helplessly trapped in a mechanical present (Ahriman).

Moving into Movement: The Central Balance

Steiner taught that the ultimate way to finding the past back is through the Christ Impulse (the principle of perfect cosmic balance, often artistically rendered by Steiner in his massive wooden sculpture The Representative of Humanity, where a central human figure calmly holds both Lucifer and Ahriman at bay).

To truly perceive the past as a "world in movement," a spiritual researcher must realize that the ancient Lemurian "fire" and Atlantean "water" have not vanished—they have transformed.

  • The internal willpower of the Lemurians has evolved into our modern capacity for individual, independent human love and moral freedom.
  • The seed-technology of the Atlanteans is destined to return in a future epoch (the Sixth Epoch), where humanity will learn to construct machines powered not by dead electricity or fossil fuels, but by the moral vibrations of the human heart.

By looking at a dragon legend or a pyramid not as a dead historical artifact, but as an early stage of a living, breathing planetary organism that is still growing, you are actively defeating the static illusions of the adversaries. You are reclaiming the memory of the Earth.

Next we will continue our spiritual-scientific research into these moving epochs, such as the reappearance of the Atlantean misuse of etheric forces in our current age, and how Steiner warned we might misuse them again through modern technology.
To explore these topics, Steiner suggests a researcher can train their own thinking to become "living and fluid" enough to perceive these realities without falling into illusions.
