The Adrenal Glands and Inner Posture
When the human soul experiences a crisis of meaning, existential despair, or lives out of harmony with its true spiritual purpose (Einstellung), a profound inner tension is generated within the Astral body.

From an anthroposophical perspective, the human organization is a dynamic interplay where the higher invisible members—the Astral body (the seat of psychology, desires, and passions) and the Ego organization (the spiritual core, consciousness, and Einstellung)—imprint themselves upon the lower physical vehicles.
In this view, the adrenal glands, for instance, and the HPA axis serve as a primary physical gateway where spiritual disharmony crystallizes into organic pathology. When the Einstellung (inner attitude, alignment, or spiritual posture) is fractured, it ripples through the human constitution into physical reality.
When the human soul experiences a crisis of meaning, existential despair, or lives out of harmony with its true spiritual purpose (Einstellung), a profound inner tension is generated within the Astral body.
The physical brain (specifically the hypothalamus and pituitary gland) acts as a physical mirror and transducer for this non-physical, astral-spiritual friction.
This spiritual alarm translates into the physical nervous and endocrine systems via the HPA axis. The adrenal glands are compelled to overproduce cortisol, pouring the spiritual "fire" of stress into the physical blood to handle what the conscious ego perceives as a foundational threat to existence.
If the spiritual-soul habits remain chronically tense, aggressive, or misaligned, the constant demands placed on the physical body eventually exhaust its vital forces. The brain down-regulates its signaling, and the adrenal output drops.
In anthroposophical terms, the excessive activity of the Astral body and Ego overpowers the Etheric body (the vehicle of life forces, regeneration, and fluid balance). The Etheric body can no longer heal or sustain the physical organs, manifesting physically as systemic inflammation, profound exhaustion, and HPA-axis dysfunction.
When synthetic substances like prednisone are introduced, they artificially mimic this process, causing the brain to halt its signals entirely, effectively forcing the spiritual-soul connection to the physical adrenal process to go completely dormant.
The adrenal glands do not act independently; they are physical instruments responding directly to the spiritual-soul climate of the human being. A permanent shift in physical health ultimately requires a transformation of the inner "Einstellung."
