In The Dark Night Of The Soul
A dark night experience is an inner experience, a journey alone into the center of the self, where only the soul can answer the questions.
In the dark night of the soul, there is no simple, intrinsic purpose in suffering that is simply waiting to be discovered. We must, in fact, create purpose there. This is one of life’s strange paradoxes.
A being that can withstand utter darkness and silence in the face of the never-ending question, “Why?” regarding suffering must be formed from the depths of the inner self, not from the intricacies of rational thinking. Philosophy, theology, and other systematic methods for understanding cannot help us there. A dark night experience is an inner experience, a journey alone into the center of the self, where only the soul can answer the questions.
Find what is knocking on your inner door and allow the fear of it to become conscious. I think this is the only way through. For the light to touch the dark places inside, we must first open them. This is a secret we are sent to this planet to uncover.
The force of life inside the emptiness of the universe is parallel to our own expansion. It is birthed into darkness and nothingness; it will grow to fill every empty space. Transformation must be inner—discovery and renewal, understanding and wisdom are conceived out of fear and anger, darkness and despair.
The darker the night, the greater the morning to come will be. This seems hard to believe, but is true all the same. The forces that formed our being are still at work. We are still being created, and we participate now in that creation.
Do not fear the darkness. Enter it as you would a holy place. Listen to it. Let yourself be taught about meaning and being. Never give up hope. As surely as the night comes, the sun also rises. It will rise someday in each one of us as well.
