From Passive Revelation to Conscious Spiritual Cognition.

It will become increasingly difficult, to know what is true, and what is not.
Steiner therefore appears in this age, with something fundamentally different.
To meet the world, and the spiritual reality, a new step in evolution is required. Science sought to prevent superstition, and all sorts of believes, which could lead to problematic interpretations.
Science itself has problematic interpretations built into it. Steiner corrected these, and freed science from its mechanistic slant, while re-humanizing it according to reality.

1. The Danger of Passive Reception (The Root of Radicalism)

* The Mechanism:

When people operate in "mediumnistic" or purely visionary states, they passively receive content (voices, dogmas, revelations).

* The Consequence:

Because the recipient's conscious "I" is absent during the formation of this content, they cannot analyze it. They accept it as an absolute external dictate—even if they attribute it to God. This lack of cognitive participation causes the thought to "harden" into un-nuanced, one-sided fundamentalism.

2. The Observation of Thought (The Steiner Pivot)

* The Mechanism:

Steiner argues that while we observe the outside world, we usually ignore the tool we use to understand it: our own thinking. To correct this, we can turn our perception inward to observe the act of thinking itself while it is happening.

* The Consequence:

This is not thinking about thinking (which is just more speculation). It is the direct, exception-state perception of the Thinking Activity itself. Thought is unique because it is the only element in the universe that is self-luminous; it explains itself and identifies everything else.

3. Conscious Co-Creation (Spiritual Realism)

* The Mechanism:

Once the human "I" fully inhabits the thinking activity, thinking transforms from a passive reception of thoughts into an active, non-physical doing.

* The Consequence:

You no longer just "have" a spiritual experience; you consciously co-form the spiritual content in real-time alignment with spiritual reality. This eliminates superstition and mediumship. It replaces them with objective spiritual perception, allowing a person to act in the physical world out of genuine spiritual clarity.

Key Terminology Aligning with Steiner’s Work:

* Exceptional State (Ausnahmezustand):

This is Steiner's exact term for the rare inner state where a human being stops looking at external objects and instead observes their own current thinking activity.

* Intuitive Thinking / Living Thinking:

This describes thinking that has risen above brain-bound, abstract thoughts into a dynamic, spiritual activity.

* Mediumship vs. Clairvoyance:

In Anthroposophy, mediumship is dangerous because it requires the suppression of the conscious ego (the "I"). True clairvoyance or spiritual perception requires the "I" to be fully awake, sharp, and highly disciplined—more awake than in daily life, not less.

* Moral Intuition:

This is the ultimate goal of this training. When you think fluidly within the spiritual realm, you receive precise, un-hardened ethical impulses tailored exactly to the physical situation at hand.

In Summary

Thinking is only the starting place, namely the most conscious point within our being.
Everything occuring within our being, in terms of the inner world, are spiritual realities occuring within us. Be it emotions, sensations. They are therefore to be treated as perceptions, not in a static way—since to actually perceive these aspects, moving within them is required—but by approaching them as spiritual realities indeed. In so doing one moves through one's inner world as through a spiritual world, which indeed it reveals itself to be.
Spiritual activity means then moving with one's whole being in the spiritual plane, as it belongs to the physical reality as well.
