From a "Spatial" to a "Time-View" of Divine Beings

To move from a "spatial" to a "Time-View" of spiritual beings, be it Christ, God, Michael or any other, one must stop seeing them as figures sitting in a distant heaven (Space) and rather start seeing them as Evolutionary Thresholds or Pivots of History (Time). In Anthroposophy, spiritual beings, just as any other beings, are not "static"; they are "becoming," and their relationship to humanity changes as the Great Arc of Time unfolds.

The Great Arc: From Sun to Earth

In the beginning (Old Saturn/Old Sun), spiritual beings and humans were "one." Evolution is the process of these beings withdrawing to create a "Space" where humans can be free. * God (The Trinity): Not a person, but the "Ground of Being." In the Time-View, the "Father" represents the deep past (Old Saturn/Will), the "Son" (Christ) represents the Present (Earth/Life), and the "Holy Spirit" represents the Future (Jupiter/Consciousness). * The Hierarchy: Each rank (Angels, Archangels, etc.) has its own "Time-Task." They don't just "exist"; they work on specific stages of our evolution.

Christ: The "Pivot" of Time

Steiner describes the Christ-Event as the "Turning Point of Time." If you visualize the Great Arc as a "U" shape: * The Descent (Before Christ): Spirit was densifying into matter. Humanity was losing its ancient clairvoyance. We were becoming "spatially bound." * The Pivot (Golgotha): At the bottom of the "U," the Christ—a Being of the Sun—entered a physical body (Jesus). This is the moment "Eternity entered Time." * The Ascent (After Christ): Because of this event, the Earth began its slow "spiritualization." Matter is now being turned back into Light through human consciousness.

Jesus vs. Christ: The Time-Distinction

In a Time-View, "Jesus" and "Christ" are different gestures: * Jesus (The Vessel): The result of a long, "spatial" genetic history (the two Jesus children mentioned by Steiner). He represents the highest perfection of the Physical/Human past. * Christ (The Being): A cosmic Sun-Being who had never lived in a physical body. He represents the Future of the Earth. * The Meeting: At the Baptism in the Jordan, the "Future" (Christ) inhabited the "Past" (Jesus). This interaction created a "Now" that changed the laws of the universe.

Michael: The Spirit of the Current Age

Archangel Michael is the "Time-Spirit" (Zeitgeist) for our specific era (since 1879). * The Gesture: Michael does not command; he waits. He represents the "Intelligence" that used to be divine but has now fallen into human brains as "thinking." * The Task: His role in the Arc of Time is to help us take our "static, spatial" thoughts and set them on fire with spiritual warmth. He is the "Prince of Thought" who helps us transition from the Earth-stage to the future Jupiter-stage.

Visualizing the "Time-Hierarchy"

To hold this in movement, trying this "Time-View" meditation is useful: * Looking Back: See the Father-God as the ancient warmth of Old Saturn. * Looking Forward: See the Holy Spirit as the future communal consciousness of humanity. * Stand in the Center: See Christ as the living power that connects the two, and Michael as the "guide" standing right next to you, pointing the way from the "Dead Thought" (Space) to the "Living Word" (Time). How this changes ones practice: Instead of praying "to" a being in a location, one begins to collaborate with a being in a specific "Time-Stream." We could now look at the specific dates of the Archangel cycles (why Michael is in charge now), or perhaps how the "Second Coming" is understood as a purely "Time-Event" (Etheric) rather than a spatial one..
